Sacred Forest - Round 4 - Page 8 - END
Tilt jerked awake.
“Whoah, calm down, boy!” said a familiar voice. A warm hand touched Tilt’s head--he looked up and saw best friend. Not sick. Alive.
Tilt burrowed his head in Lance’s lap as the boy hugged him. “What’s wrong, Tilt? Bad dream?”
Not anymore.

Flutter Song woke up in her old home, baffled. What just...?
“Dancing Leaves?” she chirped nervously.
The fox tumbled into view below the tree Flutter Song was perched on. “Flutter Song, wake up! I thought you said you wanted to see the kits when they were old enough to get out of the den!”
“Th-the wha

Camilla shivered on the cold forest floor. Was it real? Was she dreaming?
Please, please let it have been a dream...
She saw Meka, very still on the forest floor, surrounded with embers. It was all real.
She crawled over to Dercas--the kitsune was wheezing on the ground, opening her eyes when the girl got near.
“Dercas,” Camilla croaked, “why did you even offer to grant a wish?”
Dercas stared blankly ahead, her breathing shallow. “I was lonely,” she whispered. “So lonely. And I hoped that, maybe, by some small chance...I’d be freed by the wish.” A tear slid down the guardian's face. &

Allele lurched to her feet, hacking up teal blood.
Make the wish! Dercas’ panicked voice hissed in her head.
“I-I don’t know what to wish for,” Allele croaked, salty tears nearly forming in her eyes. She was in agony--her wings were too torn to even fly, and bleeding heavily. She realized with a cold sinking feeling that she might die today.
She could see in her fuzzy vision two gigantic beasts crashing into each other, snarling and sending blood of all colors flying. The competitors ran backwards in a panic, trying not to get crushed.
What a mess.
Allele stomped a hoof on the grass, staring Mobius in the eyes. Th

Allele’s wings were weak; she flew falteringly, nearly falling out of the air at some points and flying back up afterwards.
Not that Meka was doing a great job flying, either. He could barely fly in a straight line, and when he did, Camilla nearly slipped off his back. The haziness around the edge of his vision didn’t help.
“Hang on,” Meka growled to Camilla--she clung to his mane tightly.
Meka clumsily snapped at Allele, but she swiped her tail, slashing the scar on his chest without a single warning from his instincts. He grunted as he lost altitude, but he caught himself and chased after the moth again.

Tilt and Meka ran side by side
Something must be wrong-
It was no time to hide.
Biaxident's ghostly bays cleared their way
Fleeing animals dodged around them in a fray
Tilt had a sleeping Camilla on his back
Meka looked at her in worry - he wished her safe from attack.
But he knew there would be no escape
If the forest didn't die, to be trapped was their fate.
It already seemed to be in its death throes
Was this too soon? He didn't know.
Meka! Mobius has come back
I need your instincts to aid my attack
Navi will guide you to me -
Her voice cuts off as they all hear the scream.
Meka grits his teeth as it hurts his head

About a year ago, a small ball of fur and tears perched on a spindly branch.
She’d left for adventure, not crippling loneliness.
A colorful little bird wheeled down to land beside her on the branch. Immediately, the Abstraction’s ears perked and she whirled her head around in its direction. It tilted its head at her, beady eyes unimpressed.
“H-Hey little guy! Do you want to be my friend?” Camilla asked, wiping a tear out of her eye and showing a weak smile.
The bird looked the hopeful girl up and down, stepped closer to her, and screeched in her face before taking to the sky again.
She watched the bird leave, a co
SIX MONTHS LATER
Birds sing, even if their voices are far fewer than before. Bats and foxes pass through the dusk air as the moles recreate their collapsed tunnels. Plants stretch their stems and leaves gladly to the dusk sky.
Tiny shoots spring up as a vast fox spirit treads lightly through the forest, only to fade slightly as she passes. In dim light she is most visible - a pale outline, dotted with many eyes that gleam and watch everything around them. She touches her nose to a broken tree trunk, and its growth becomes hastened. She dips her head to a family of rabbits in their warren.
She comes at last to a place where flowers bloom mo
Silence fills the aftermath, silence broken only by the occasional snap of a branch or the cry of a dying creature. The sharp scent of tree sap permeates the senses, the lifeblood of so many broken forest behemoths.
Meka, Tilt, and Camilla are safe - sheltered by the cage of vines as destruction raged around them. They have small cuts and bruises, nothing more.
Thank you, former competitors. Despite grave losses, the forest still lives. Even though technically the final round never had a victor -
"Oh, give me a break." mutters Meka.
- I will still grant each of you a wish, as a reward for your services. Dercas's voice sounds half irritate
